September, boy did that ever come fast this year! I love September, the change of the season, cool mornings, bulls bugling…oh sorry, I digressed, so easily distracted, back to my subject of September. It is a month of harvest, celebrating the harvest! The Jewish Feast Sukkot is celebrated in September, it’s one of the three main feasts that all men are required to attend/celebrate, it’s a joyful time, bringing in the harvest, expressing gratitude for God’s provision. It reminds us of a time when Israel wandered in the wilderness and God provided for them as they dwelt in tents, their temporary dwelling. In like manner today we are dwelling in our temporary home but one day God will tabernacle/dwell with us in our permanent home, until then we celebrate that He is with us, that He is providing for us, and we are thankful to be in this great harvest! It is a great day to be alive, rejoice, celebrate, we are in the harvest, give thanks for an abundant harvest! 2 Corinthians 10.18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. May we at this season be filled with great joy, that God has given us this assignment/task to be a minister of reconciliation, we are at the very center of God’s heart when we speak for Christ to a lost and dying world “come back to God”! As we give thanks and celebrate Sukkot (feast of tabernacles/tents), engage this beautiful harvest, we now reflect the heart of our God “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. God’s love never fails, all will know that we are His disciples by the love that we have for one another!
In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians he says in chapter 12, verse 20: For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior. Paul feared the church had become distracted from the task of reconciling people to God. May we be a District, fellowship, family, that stays laser pointed on the task at hand, do not become distracted by the aforementioned, and be joyful, grow to maturity, encourage each other, live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you!
